It seems only appropriate that our long-awaited Ghost Chiles would arrive during these 100+ degree days! These little red fireballs outpace everything on the chile heat scale, leaving the habanero in the dust. 400 (yes, 400) times hotter than Tabasco sauce, here’s a way to understand just how hot a Ghost Chile is: A jalapeno pepper rates about 3,000 Scoville units. A habanero measures 300,000 Scoville units. The Ghost Chile? ONE MILLION SCOVILLE UNITS!
Chileheads go crazy for Ghost Chiles (also known as “Bhut Jolokia” Chiles) and we’ve got ’em! Because they are so dangerously hot, we are only selling them whole, not powdered, as we don’t want to scare off the folks looking just for thyme, oregano and tarragon. You can easily grind them at home in a spice/coffee grinder or with a mortar and pestle if a powder is needed.
In honor of the arrival of the Ghost Chile and the current July heat wave, here’s a recipe that will heat you up and cool you down, all in one bite: Chocolate Ghost Chile Ice Cream Sauce.
