2015 Iowa State Fair AllSpice Food Contest Judging Schedule

iowastatefair2013_Lite104-1The Iowa State Fair begins tomorrow, August 12.

We’re so excited to get out to the State Fairgrounds on the East Side of Des Moines. We have so many things we love visiting and doing, year after year.

These are a few of our favorite things. We love seeing the biggest pig, the crazy-big award-winning pumpkins, this year’s butter cow, and the extraordinary 4-H projects. We like to take a ride above the Fairgrounds on the Sky Glider, slide down the giant slide, watch the Bill Riley talent contest winners, and people-watch at the Soapbox where Presidential nominee-wannabes give their speeches.

Nothing compares 2 food. And, of course, no State Fair visit is complete without procuring the requisite corn dog, fresh-squeezed lemonade, Bauder’s Oreo ice cream sandwich, and pork chop on a stick. Plus, we have to try whatever the new “thing on a stick” is every summer. (This summer’s new stick-based treats include apple pie on a stick, chocolate-dipped strawberries on a stick, fried peanut butter and jelly on a stick (!), and something called the “ultimate bacon explosion.”)

Rory_Amy_State_FairThe food contest judging sessions (which all take place at the Elwell Family Food Center) are free and open to the public, and having contestants, friends, and fans there for the events gives the contests a more party-like atmosphere.

The recipes you create, and the delicious foods you make, amaze and delight us each year. We can’t wait to see the genius things you’ve come up with this time!

Can’t make it to the State Fair event judging? Stay tuned — we’ll share the award-winning recipes in the weeks to come, here on the AllSpice blog, and  in the SpicyBytes newsletter and via our Facebook and Twitter news feeds.
