The World Food & Music Festival is celebrating its 15th year in 2019, and will be in the Western Gateway Park, downtown Des Moines, next weekend, September 20 – 22.
The World Food & Music Festival offers international cuisine, live music and cultural dance, cooking demonstrations, wine and craft beers and “a vibrant atmosphere” of celebration of the people and cultures who have made Des Moines their home.
For the 2019 festival, food and beverage vendors will represent more than 25 countries and culinary regions including Italy, Greece, Thailand, Ecuador, Jamaica, the Netherlands, South Korea, Laos, the Philippines, Mexico, India, Morocco, Somalia, Bosnia, Ecuador, among others.
Produced by the Greater Des Moines Partnership, the World Food & Music Festival began in Fall 2004 in the East Village neighborhood. It featured approximately two dozen vendors and a handful of music and dance groups who performed over the course of the festival.
In 2017, the festival expanded into its current home in Western Gateway Park.
This year, more than fifty food vendors* will serve the expected 90,000 guests who visit The Festival to taste, see, hear and experience the World Food & Music Festival.
The festival also features FREE live music on the Polk County Board of Supervisors Main Stage. In addition, the event will feature the Principal Cultural Stage showcasing culturally diverse musicians and dancers, the Meredith Corporation Culinary Discovery Pavilion cooking demonstrations, the Nationwide Cooking Challenge, unique Cultural Discovery Experiences and the Voya Financial Fruit Adventure Tent!
