Half a decade! — that’s a ton of Saturday Samples served, weekly recipes written, monthly work schedules arranged, labels written, and so much more to keep this shop running like a well-oiled machine.
Chef Amy: our secret weapon. Most of all, Amy has been amazingly organized. She has, without fail, kept everyone on the staff moving in the right direction so that we could be prepared for events: Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, the contests at the Iowa State Fair, our annual party in October, November Promenade, and busiest of all, Christmas.
Amy’s creativity, sense of humor, and shining personality will be missed by everyone here. I have especially appreciated her zen-like attitude: when I would be stressed about some small issue that would arise unexpectedly, she’s always had a knack for bringing me back to ground.
All the feels. To be honest, writing this makes me tear up, thinking that she won’t be here with us to share in all the crazy fun we have at AllSpice. She’s been such a key part of the fun and adventures we have had since the store opened in 2010.
And I confess: I am also a little bit jealous she gets to go on this adventure of a lifetime. What a fantastic opportunity, to move with your partner, to live and work in Europe!
So, what will happen next at AllSpice? We know we’ll be making some adjustments around the store – Amy has been responsible for keeping so many things running smoothly — she leaves some very big shoes to fill! With Amy’s departure, we will be assigning some of her many duties to other long-time AllSpice staffers, and Andy and I will be taking on some more responsibilities too. Finally, in addition to that, we will eventually be hiring a few more part-time staff members to help with the day-to-day operations at the store.
Please join me and the whole AllSpice crew in thanking Chef Amy for all she has done for us here at the shop – and in wishing Amy and AJ a wonderful, exciting next chapter in their lives together!
