It’s a grand day for judging!

Judging for the first of the AllSpice contests at the 2019 Iowa State Fair begins on Friday, August 9, and we’re so excited to get started!

It’s a grand night for singing, in Rogers and Hammerstein’s musical about the Iowa State Fair

The Iowa State Fair officially began its 10-day run Thursday morning, but we’ve already been out to the Fairgrounds a time or two this week, getting ready for our part in the festivities.

We stopped out there Tuesday to drop off the gifts that all the contestants get for entering AllSpice’s competitions, and to fill our “winners’ circle” case:

As we identify the winners in each of our competitions, Fair officials will display the winning entries in the case with our products. Well, most of the winners, that is. They obviously can’t put ice cream or chili in the un-refrigerated display, but when you come through the Elwell Family Food Center, be sure to peek at the winning cookies, snack mixes, and jerky.

Contest judging as spectator sport? You bet! We love getting to sample dozens of our customers’ best recipes when we judge our State Fair contests — and we like to watch other judges choosing winners for their competitions, too.

If you’d like to join us, we’d love to have you in our “audience” while we select the winners of the AllSpice contests over the next week.

AllSpice contest-judging schedule: We start judging our contests on Friday, August 9 at 9:30am with the Cookie contests. Chili judging is Friday at noon.  On Monday, August 12, we will be judging Ice Cream at 1:30pm, Snack Mixes at 2:30pm and homemade Jerky at 3:30pm.

If you stop by the Elwell Center on our judging days, please pop over and say hello to us! And have fun at the fair this week!
