Labor Day: celebrating the ‘rude nature’ of the American worker

We’re coming up on Labor Day weekend in a few days!

Though the “father” of Labor Day is in some dispute, many attribute the observance to American Federation of Labor co-founder Peter J. McGuire, who suggested a day to honor those “who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold.”

Long before it was “that last weekend the swimming pool is open,” and the last opportunity to wear white shoes (and seersucker) until Memorial Day, Labor Day has been observed as an annual celebration of “the social and economic achievements of American workers, a tribute to the contributions workers have made to “the strength, prosperity, and well-being” of our country.

All this by way of saying:, AllSpice will be closed on Monday, September 7 (the first Monday in September), while we celebrate the Labor Day holiday.  We’ll be open again Tuesday morning, September 8, bright and early at 10 am.
