Staff Profiles: Kerry O

This week, we’re kicking off a series of profiles of the AllSpice staff. We’re proud of our talented and eclectic crew.

Over the summer, get to know our AllSpice “Spice Grrrls” and “Old Spice Guys.”

This week: Kerry O.

How did you come to be at AllSpice?
A friend and I were talking about the health benefits of spices, and she told me about Alex’s store, so I joined the staff to learn firsthand about the “mojo” of spices along with the culinary perspective.

What do you do at the shop?
Kerry: I get to talk with customers about their creative recipes – I guess that’s customer service, right? (laughs)

What’s your favorite ingredient in the store?
Kerry: My favorite? That would be everything we have… but if I have to narrow it down, I grill all year ’round. The rubs we have for beef and chicken are outstanding.

What’s your favorite thing to cook – or what is your specialty?
Kerry: Steak and chicken — on the grill, of course!

When someone else is doing the cooking, what’s your favorite dish?
Kerry: I love pasta.

Do you have a food that is your guilty pleasure, and if so, what is it?
Kerry: Well, we all love chocolate.

What do you do for fun, when you’re not having fun at AllSpice?
Kerry: I have four grown children, so we visit someone almost every weekend. I also love golf — although I have a huge handicap — and I enjoy being in my garden. I enjoy trying out creative new recipes for when my family comes to town. I try not to subject non-family to my “creative cooking” until I’ve made the recipe several times and perfected it.
