For many, the holiday season officially begins with their Thanksgiving dinner, followed by “Black Friday,” and a hectic, headlong tumble through the days leading up to the Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year’s holidays.
Not so for us. We like to kick off the festive season a little earlier – the weekend before Thanksgiving, in fact. We savor some fun, low-key days to get our footing before the build-up to Thanksgiving and the ensuing busy weeks.
You should join us in the fun that begins on Friday:
Downtown Farmers’ Market – the Winter edition. With more than 150 local vendors on hand, the indoor winter farmers’ market provides shoppers the chance to stock up for holiday meals, parties and gift giving. Local farmers, crafters, bakers and makers offer a variety of fresh handmade products, including locally produced honey, jams, salsa, cheese, bread, pies, and so on — along with clever, crafty gifts and late-season produce.
Bigger and better? The Winter Market is this Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23, 8 am – 2 pm, in *note* a new location: Hy-Vee Hall, in Downtown Des Moines, located at 730 3rd Street. This new venue gives The Winter Market space for at least 20 more vendors, growing the total vendor count from 130 to 150. A list of who’ll be there is on the Downtown Farmers Market website.
This Friday, November 22, marks the 18th annual East Village Holiday Promenade. Holiday Promenade at AllSpice means Triple Ginger Cookies and warm mulled cider of course! The annual Holiday Promenade has become so popular, it’s now expanded to a two-day event, with the Friday night festivities extending through the whole day on Saturday, November 23.
Next, the Feast. AllSpice will be open during our regular store hours now through Wednesday, November 27 (when we’ll close at 6 pm).
We’re ready for you. Whether you’re making the whole Thanksgiving feast, or just your one signature dish to share, the store is already stocked with all the ingredients you’ll need for your holiday cooking.
Gift-giving at Thanksgiving? Does your Thanksgiving celebration also include getting gifts for the far-away relatives you don’t get to see in December? We’ve got a plan for that. We’ve got a wide range of thoughtful gift boxes (pictured, right) to please everyone from the grill-master to the sweets-baker, including some gift sets that have been revamped for the 2019 holidays.
We’ll be closed all day on Thursday, Nov 28, for the Thanksgiving holiday, and then open again bright and early (well, 10 am-type-early) on Saturday, November 30.
