Tiny Tots With Their Eyes All Aglow: Warm Drinks For Kids of All Ages

Take a good look at that child: their eyes really are aglow! Was it the entire package of Double-Stuffed Neon Green and Red Oreos they demolished at Grandma’s house? Or is it the heady thrill of finally meeting St. Nick in person? Are they freaking out because some well-meaning adult told them “He sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake…”?

Or maybe they’re all aglow from the extra energy that bubbles over because it’s holiday time, and everything is just so exciting right now?

Whatever the cause, tiny tots [and children of all ages] are especially fun to be around this time of year. Their childlike wonder at the preparations and festivities reminds us to lighten up and enjoy ourselves.

Here are some drinks that, while they’re not “Kid Drinks,” per se, they can be enjoyed by all ages:

Hot Cocoa or Chocolate. You can make it from scratch, or make it faster with our Organic Hot Chocolate Cafe Blend [1/4 Cup Hot Chocolate Cafe Blend + 1 cup of warmed milk]. Add a dash of ground cinnamon and cloves and/or nutmeg, and garnish with a dollop of whipped cream you’ve made with our honey powder.

Spiced Tea. This “fancy” spiced tea recipe is really just a strong pot of sweetened tea dressed up with citrus juices, cloves and cinnamon sticks.

Masala Chai is a traditional Indian spiced tea + milk beverage, brewed with different proportions of so-called “warm” spices. The spice mixture, called Karha, uses a base of ground ginger and green cardamom pods. Most masala chai also is spiced with one or more of the following: cinnamon, fennel seeds, peppercorn, and cloves. Here’s the link to our recipe for Chai.

Spiced Mulled Cider. We’ve talked about this on our blog and in previous issues of our SpicyBytes newsletter.  We won’t bore you with repeating details, except to say that apple cider is the quintessential drink of Autumn and Winter. And when you heat cider with wintry spices [whether you make it from scratch, or you use our Mulling Spice Blend] cider moves from quintessence to perfection. Here’s a link to a recipe for Mulled Cider from scratch.
