You may be wondering, where are the links to the second and third-place recipes? Good question. Rory Brown, AllSpice owner, explains: “[This year,] I will only be posting the first place winners’ recipes to the website. The entries we tasted this year were so good! In some of the contests, the results were very close. Since our official rules state that people cannot submit recipes taken directly from our website, an almost-won recipe could not be submitted for competition in a future contest. Withholding the runner-up recipes from publication on the AllSpice website, I think, gives those other contestants a chance to tweak their recipes and submit them again next year. ”
Our tummies may still be full from sampling all the entries, at all the State Fair cooking contests we judged (so many cookies! so much ice cream! all the chili!), but we’re already looking forward to and planning for next year’s competitions.
We’ll announce the 2017 Iowa State Fair events when the Fair Booklet is published, early next May.
