Work on Your Appetite: Labor Day Weekend at AllSpice

From the Library of Congress

Labor Day. The holiday which celebrates the labor movement — by taking a long weekend off from work. [Insert joke of your choice here. Really. Because I’m taking the rest of the weekend off.]

Labor Day weekend also allows for one last blast of summertime fun before we plunge, headlong, into fall. So, in between trips to the Downtown Farmers’ Market, the Hy-Vee Triathlon, and the hardware store [because, face it, what’s a long weekend without at least a couple house-fixing projects?], stop in at AllSpice, where delicious fun abounds:

Friday night, 5-8 pm, Olive Party with Eden
Sample our delicious single-variety olive oil and sweet-tart balsamic vinegars at the debut of Eden’s new line of Olivina fig fragrance launch. Ooo – and good stuff from Hill Vintage, and beverages by Jasper Winery. The party breaks up just in time for the [free!] Gin Blossoms concert at 8:15 pm. Eden is around the corner from us, at 418 E. 6th Street in the East Village.

Saturday Samplers, 10 am – 4 pm
Every Saturday we share tastes of two of Chef Amy’s recipes, one savory and one sweet. This week, we’ll be sampling

East Village Sunday Bazaar resumes this week!
Finally, starting September 4th, the popular East Village Sunday Bazaar will return, and we’ll be open for business. This week’s premiere of the street-market will coincide with the HyVee Triathlon events downtown, and will be from 10-6 on September 4th.  There will be merchant stalls set up along two blocks of East 5th [from The Blazing Saddle down to The Village Bean].  Enjoy live music this Sunday from 10-2 and 3-6.

The Bazaar will run from 12 – 4 on subsequent Sundays, through October 30.
