Did you know bread has its own day?
At our house, every day is a day to celebrate bread! Bread is one of the oldest prepared foods and has been a mainstay of the daily meal, in cultures across the world, since at least Neolithic times.
But officially, World Bread Day is October 16. The food holiday commemorates the anniversary of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, which was created in 1945 with the aim of defeating hunger worldwide.
In observance of National Bread Day 2019, I made two small loaves of Rosemary Bread. I started with this recipe and adapted the recipe, replacing the butter with our Rosemary Olive Oil. I love cooking with rosemary and this gave the bread just the flavor boost I was looking for. After baking the bread, I brushed the warm loaf with one of our single-varietal olive oils like Picual or Nocellara then used our Coarse Sea Salt to finish the loaves.
Give bread-making a try. The recipe I used is pretty easy to follow and it makes not one, but two loaves – one to eat and one to share!
