Spicy Apple Cider


2 quarts apple juice or cider
1 Tbsp Whole Cloves
1 Tbsp whole Allspice
1 Tbsp Crystallized Diced Ginger
1 Tbsp diced orange peel
1 tsp Granulated Honey
2 Star Anise, whole
2 Cinnamon Sticks (or more, to taste)
A few grains of salt (as desired)


Nothing is better than a warm mug of cider to warm you up on those bitter winter days (can you tell we’re in Iowa?)  This one is a very favorite of ours.

Combine all ingredients and place in a sachet/packet or directly into the cider.

Bring ingredients to a boil.  Reduce heat; simmer 30 to 60 minutes.

Remove spices by lifting or straining, and serve in hot mugs.

For a fancy added-touch, thread raisins and orange sections on skewers and use as stirrers.
