‘Snow On A Plowed Field’ Cookies

AllSpicer Fran weighed in with her homemade holiday favorites: “I do cookies and this is one old favorite. We’ve always called it “Snow on a plowed field.”

1/2 Cup Crisco shortening
1-2/3 C Sugar
2 Tsp Vanilla Paste
2 eggs
2 squares baking chocolate, melted
2 Cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 Cup milk

Using an electric mixer on low speed, cream together the shortening, sugar and vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time, beating for one minute after each addition. Add the melted baking chocolate. In a separate mixing bowl, pour in baking powder and salt, with the flour. Add the dry mixture in two steps, adding the milk in between.

Roll the chocolate cookie dough into balls and drop each into powdered sugar. Put each sugared cookie ball on a parchment-covered cookie sheet. Bake cookies at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.

Remove baked cookies to a cooling rack, and allow to cool completely before storing in a sealed container.
