This recipe from Larry Mahlstedt of Des Moines won first place in our Ice Cream Competition at the 2013 Iowa State Fair!
4 tsp Apple Pie Spice Blend
1/8 tsp Ground Cloves
1 Tbsp butter (cut into small pieces)
1/2 Cup brown sugar
1-1/2 C whole milk
2 Tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract, Tahitian
1/4 t salt
Preheat oven to 400F.
Slice Bananas into 1/2-inch pieces. Toss the slices with brown sugar, spices, and butter in a 2 quart baking dish. Bake for 40 mins; stir once while bananas are cooking.
Transfer banana mixture and sugary syrup from the baking dish into a blender. Add milk, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Puree until mixture is smooth.
Chill banana/milk mixture for at least 8 hours in the refrigerator, before transferring to an ice cream freezer. Process per manufacturer’s instructions until just frozen.
