The holiday season officially kicks off in the East Village this weekend with the 18th annual East Village Holiday Promenade. At AllSpice, our Holiday Promenade is filled with smiles, laughs, and good company. And cookies and cider of course! The Holiday Promenade has become so popular, it’s now a two-day event. Here’s what to expect:

It’s all hands on deck! The Allspice team will be there to answer questions and help you find the perfect gifts. We’ll be open until 9 p.m. on Friday night, and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday.
On Friday night, experience the merriment with horse-drawn trolley rides, ballet, caroling, tap dancing and fireworks. Check out the Facebook event for Friday night ‘deets.
On Saturday, bring the whole family! Santa will be strolling around the East Village before heading back to the North Pole to continue getting ready for the big day. Expect more caroling, ballet, and tap dancing too. Find out what’s happening throughout the day Saturday via the Facebook event.

Eightteen years!! The 18th Annual Holiday Promenade in the Historic East Village is our official holiday kick-off event.
Mark your calendars, and plan to come: This year’s event will begin on Friday, Nov. 22, 5 – 9 p.m. and extend through the day on Saturday, Nov. 23, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The East Village Holiday Promenade is always the Friday evening before Thanksgiving, making the event a great opportunity to stock up on the gourmet ingredients you’re going to need for preparing your Thanksgiving feast and holday season goodies.
(And to sweeten the deal, we’ll also have lots of tasty snacks, treats, and hors d’oeuvres on hand, just the thing to spark your holiday cooking imagination. )
Aside from the hundreds of twinkling lights sparkling as night falls, Promenade also has free horse-drawn trolley rides, visits with Santa Claus, carolers strolling around the neighborhood, ice skating and a traditional tree-lighting ceremony at Brenton Skating Plaza. and FIREWORKS!
AllSpice and our neighboring shops, restaurants and bars will have extended hours and treats on Promenade Friday.
The World Food & Music Festival is celebrating its 15th year in 2019, and will be in the Western Gateway Park, downtown Des Moines, next weekend, September 20 – 22.
The World Food & Music Festival offers international cuisine, live music and cultural dance, cooking demonstrations, wine and craft beers and “a vibrant atmosphere” of celebration of the people and cultures who have made Des Moines their home.
For the 2019 festival, food and beverage vendors will represent more than 25 countries and culinary regions including Italy, Greece, Thailand, Ecuador, Jamaica, the Netherlands, South Korea, Laos, the Philippines, Mexico, India, Morocco, Somalia, Bosnia, Ecuador, among others.
Next Thursday, we’ll be participating in this year’s Girls’ Night in the Village hosted by the John Stoddard Cancer Center.
The event kick off begins at 5:30 p.m. at Curate on E. Court Ave. They’ll be serving appetizers, drinks and will present a short program about cancer prevention and the latest treatment options.
Afterward, explore the East Village until 8:30 p.m., shopping as businesses offer special discounts, unique items and tasty treats. Over twenty East Village locations will be participating in the evening out.
