The Summer Stroll is this Friday, June 21st, from 5 to 9 pm.
June 21 isn’t just a Friday, it’s also the longest day of the year! Celebrate the Summer Solstice in the East Village with open houses, good times, and a few surprises! Stores in the neighborhood are taking advantage of the extra daylight, and staying open late.
Participating East Village businesses are celebrating the inaugural Summer Stroll with activities, refreshments, and specials.
Here at AllSpice, we are using the Summer Stroll event to get into the mood for summertime cookouts, weekend picnics, and practicing our grill skills for Independence Day potlucks: We will sharing Bratwurst, Denise’s mustard, and a new pasta salad (that will also be the Saturday sample on June 22).
We’ll also be sampling some snack mix that was a State Fair recipe contest winner and the always-popular Spicy Rosemary Chocolate Chip cookies. (We’re hoping to inspire and remind you to enter your most creative recipes in the AllSpice food contests at the Iowa State Fair — deadline to enter is July 1!).
Also, the Bubbling Brine Brothers will be at the store sampling their artisanal kraut during the Summer Stroll, and will have some available to sell too. They are from Rory’s hometown of Fairfield, Iowa, and are also at the Downtown Des Moines Farmers’ Market on Saturdays.
We hope this is the beginning of a new tradition in the Village!
Ample parking on the streets and easy, low-cost parking in the new ramp on East 2nd. As always, park FREE in the ramp at Grand and Penn.
See you Friday night for the Summer (Solstice) Stroll!
