As the end of summer draws nearer, we’re ready to finish strong…at the grill! This week we asked AllSpicer Rory to tell us more about one of his favorite ingredients to use with the grill – Col. Pabst All Malt Amber-Lager Worcestershire. Its name’s a mouthful, so we’ll just refer to it as Col. Pabst Worcestershire from here on out.
“I love the Col. Pabst Worcestershire Sauce,” says Rory. “It’s unique, starting right at its base. The sauce is made primarily from amber lager beer, not vinegar, plus a variety of other interesting ingredients like tamarind, ginger, and madras curry. The result is an amazingly smooth and delicious Worcestershire sauce like no other.”
The sauce is an old Pabst family recipe (yep – the same Pabst family responsible for PBR). It’s brewed in Wisconsin in small batches and is then strained and bottled before making its way to our shelves. Note that unlike most of our other products, this sauce does contain wheat and soy.
Rory went on to share with us some of his favorite ways to use the sauce. For grilling, he suggested mixing a tablespoon of Col. Pabst Worcestershire in with ground beef, along with two teaspoons of our New York Steak & Burger Seasoning for perfect grilled hamburgers. It also works well as a marinade for steaks, chicken, and even veggies. “We easily go through a 16 oz bottle during the summer months,” he shared.
The sauce is just as good off the grill. Try adding it to your meatloaf, tossing a splash in a pan sauce after deglazing the pan, or adding a tablespoon (or two if you’re feelin’ sassy) to your Bloody Mary. Col. Pabst Worcestershire is also a nice addition to homemade barbecue sauces, cocktail sauces, and party mixes.
Pick up a bottle between now and Sunday (we’ll be closed Monday) so you have it to enjoy during this weekend’s Labor Day celebrations. Then come back to grab some more in a week or two. We know you’re going to love it that much!
